Week 1-Post 3
This week I was presented with multiple exercises comparing the idea of categorical moral reasoning and consequentialist moral reasoning. It had me constantly questioning myself, and I got to consider other people's point of views by listening to what the college students would do in the situation. This was interesting because I got to see what choice the majority of the class chose and why. I am excited for future lessons so I can learn about other philosophical exercises.
My main 2 questions for this week is what does relating more with consequential moral reasoning or categorical moral reasoning say about that person (if that makes sense), and would peoples choices in the trolley scenario change if they were to actually be in the situation and have less time to think about it.

What do you think the different modes say about a person?
ReplyDeleteI believe that people who use consequentialist moral reasoning would be realists, and maybe not as empathetic because they focus on the morals in the outcome of the situation. Then, people who use categorical moral reasoning would be more empathetic since they take into account the person's rights instead of just the outcome.
