Week 3- Post 3
I enjoyed this week's learning, and liked the content of Lecture 5 the most out the 3. I think that the way Libertarianists view government policies is interesting because of the way they value the individual's rigtht to choose freely, rather than the outcome of where that might get them. Especially with the seatbelt one, because if seatbelts were not as heavily enforced then more people would get hurt or die in crashes. Yet libertarianists still stick with that belief so strongly. With this new information, I can now think about the differentiating perceptions society has about government policies and why they believe it.
Questions:
- Are there any other strategies people believe can be used to determine the value of a preference? or does everyone jsut collectively agree with John Stuart Mill's.
- What else can Libertarian views be applied to? Other than government policies, where else do they have things they disapprove of.
- Why are there so many theories about the right way to go about moral reasoning

Where do you see ideas of libertarianism in the US today? Not the whole concept but maybe smaller pieces of it.
ReplyDeleteI see an idea of libertarianism today in the supporting of same-sex marriage because it fits in the concept of freedom and being able to do what makes you happy.
